Gotcha!

I finally caught Riley's smile on camera! She looks kind of drunk, but it's a smile. It seems like every time I would try to catch it on camera, she would stop smiling, but I finally got it. I'm also posting a new video of her "talking". She's really starting to do this a lot and it's so cute!

Doctor Visit

I'm not sure why they call it a "visit" because it's not really much fun and, when you visit someone, isn't it supposed to be fun?! She had to get 4 shots. It was so pitiful that mommy even cried. She weighed 12 lbs and was 22 inches long. That puts her in the 75th percentile for weight and 50th for height. The doctor recommended putting some oatmeal in her nighttime bottle and, WOW, she slept from 9 pm until 5 am. The books all say that it doesn't work, but apparently it does!! I just hope this continues. It sure would make me feel a little more rested.

We had to give her some Tylenol so that she wouldn't feel so bad. It's pretty easy giving medicine to an infant. I'm sure that will not last, though : ) It was grape flavor and smelled like it would taste really good. Why didn't they have those flavored meds when I was little?! Well, I think they did, but it wasn't the same. They have like 100 different flavors now that the pharmacist can add to any medicine.

Since she didn't feel good, Ben decided to put her in the bath tub with him. (Sorry, no pic of that : ) ). It was so sweet and she loved it! It really relaxed her and she went straight to sleep in his arms afterwards.

Exciting News!

Well, OK, it's only exciting if you're the parents of a newborn, but Riley slept all night last night. Granted it was 4 am when she woke for her bottle, but to us, that's all night. I'm praying that it wasn't just a fluke and that she'll continue to do it.

We had the gang over last night for dinner (Eric, Laura, Mandi, Jason, Jacob and Kaleb). Jason wore the kids out playing before they came, so they were pretty calm. They actually sat and read Riley's books for a good while. We had a great time! To let you know how lame we are now, the highlights of the night for me were Eric talking to Riley (and her talking back) and him reading her "There's a Wocket in My Pocket", and Jason giving Riley her bottle. Jason has definitely not lost his touch. In fact, I think it's about time for another little one for them : ) I won't bore anyone with all of the other details of the night, but as usual we had a great time. I am posting a few pics from last night along with Ben and Riley napping yesterday and our visit from Nana and Papa.

A Spoiled Little Girl

We made another trip to Gran and Pop's house in Huntsville. As usual, Riley wasn't lacking for attention. To prove this, I've included a picture of Jeanie, Pop, Gran and Aunt Nay Nay (Glenda) gathered around her crib watching her "talk" to her turtle. This is not an unusual occurance, by the way.

This visit to Huntsville was to celebrate Pop's birthday. We all went to Rosie's for dinner on Wednesday and it was delicious. A trip to HuntsVegas just doesn't seem right without at least one meal at Rosie's. I still need to ask them when they are going to open one in Birmingham : )

We had several visitors while we were there. Of course, Aunt Nay Nay was there everyday. We like to time it where she can change a dirty diaper and we succeeded once. Other visitors to the house were Aunt Jeanie, Jill and Sarah Grace, Eddie and Kyla, Sheri and Chason, and Cathy and Sophie. I think Chason is going to be a good babysitter one day, Sarah Grace was a little too busy to pay much attention to Riley, and Sophie was a lot more talkative than I expected. She really took up with Pop, so he couldn't resist giving her one of the Big Birds that they always keep around. (Have I ever said how much those things get on my nerves?!) Cathy called the next day and said that Sophie insisted on taking Big Bird everywhere she went that day. We are so glad she liked it so much.
Gran always takes care of Riley's night feedings while I'm there. It is SO nice to get a full night's sleep. Well, I have to admit that I do get up sometimes to "check" on them : ) It seems that every time we are there, Riley sleeps for longer intervals than she does at home. I kidded that I was going to leave her for a week so Gran could train her to sleep longer. Well, lo and behold, she slept longer last night after I brought her home. Yay! We are so ready for her to sleep through the night, but I'm afraid we have a while to go.

I know this post is getting long - and boring - so I'll end it with the pics from our visit.

A Great Night with Great Friends

Believe it or not, this post is not about Riley : ) Ben and I went on our first date since we had Riley and it was such a great night! Some of us had a little more fun than others, but we all had a great time. We went to eat and to see the Foo Fighters with Mandi, Jason, Laura, and Eric. We ate at P.F. Chang's which was great! The concert was awesome!! Everyone knows how much I love music and live concerts especially, and it's been a long time since I've been to such a great concert. They were awesome and we were front row when they came out on the stage that was off of the catwalk. I love acoustic shows and that's where they did their acoustic set, so it was perfect for me. The picture was taken with Ben's phone, so it's not the best quality, but you can see how close we were. Of course, we had to make our usual stop at Waffle House before we came home.

I'm going to post more pics when Eric sends me the ones from his camera.

Riley's First Snow

Riley got to see her first snow today! Our neighbors had already built a pretty professional looking snowman, so we just decided to borrow theirs for our picture : ) Ben did build Riley a mini snowman of her own. It was very cute! The snow has pretty much stopped here now, but we're hoping for more later. It's funny how the least little bit of snow here in Alabama calls for 24 hour weather coverage. No wonder us southerners get made fun of.

We are supposed to be going to see the Foo Fighters in concert tonight with Mandi, Jason, Laura and Eric, so we're hoping the weather is going to cooperate with that. Gran and Pop are here to keep Riley, so I am sure I will have more stories for the blog by the time they leave. Gran is talking to Riley non stop as usual and Pop is letting her sleep on her favorite pillow - his stomach.

One more thing before I end this post. We finally got Riley 'gooing' on video. It's only a small one - she can really get going sometimes - but we wanted to post it anyway.

A Whole 8 1/2 Hours of Sleep!

Cathy came yesterday to visit with us and to give me a break from the night feedings. Wow! It's amazing what 8 1/2 straight hours of sleep does for you. Cathy got here yesterday and, from the moment she first held Riley, you could tell she's a pro! She had no problem jumping right back into the newborn stage : ) We had a great time visiting. She offered some great advice since I'll be starting to try getting on a schedule next week. It's not going to be easy since I'm used to holding Riley a lot and she'd much rather sleep in my arms than in her bassinet. Oh wait, maybe that's me that would rather her sleep in my arms : ) Cathy also brought Riley some books that I can't wait to read to her.
Unfortunately, Cathy had to head back to Huntsville a little earlier than planned due to the weather, but we had a great visit! I really miss my "Huntsville Girls"!! Good friends are priceless and I have the BEST friends in the world.

More Huntsville Memories and Other Stuff

I just had to post a few more things about Riley, along with some more pics. While at Gran and Pop's in Huntsville, we gave Riley a bath. She put herself in the funniest position and we just had to take a picture. Right at the end of her bath, when we had her really good and clean, she decided she needed to poop. I'm sure it's just the first of many times : ) We managed to get her out and onto a diaper before she got herself too messed up - but not before she got poop on her Gran. We also took her to church while we were there, so that Gran and Pop could show her off. Of course, everyone thought she was so cute.

Today, we went for a walk and I put a little hat on Riley to keep the wind out of her ears. It is the cutest thing. She also had on her Gap sweatshirt with her pants with a "ruffle butt". She just looked so cute!

Nana (Ben's mom) came over tonight and Riley smiled at her for the first time. Nana loved it!! We are loving seeing her smile and hearing her "talk" to us. It never gets old and I'm sure it never will.

I know my posts aren't all that exciting, but I guess if you don't find them interesting, you don't have to keep visiting our blog : ) Like I said, motherhood has just made me feel the need to tell the whole world how wonderful Riley is!! I'm sure none of you other mothers know how that feels : )

I have one more picture to share before I end this post. It's another one that Aunt Nicole took and it is just so sweet! Take a look at Riley and her Daddy.

Riley is 'Gooing'!

I didn't plan on updating this blog. I just created it as a joke, but apparently, parenthood does something to you and you just have to tell the whole world every little thing your baby does : ) Just in the past week, Riley has started 'gooing' and it is so cute! This morning I was changing her and talking to her and she started making those high squealing sounds. No one else was here to hear it. I tried to call Gran and Pop, but she was done with it : (. Gran has this turtle hanging on her crib at her house and Riley just loves it. She'll lay there and just get so excited and make all kinds of noises, so I just had to get one for our house! I can't wait to let Ben see how much she loves it and how she "talks" to it. I think we owe her talking to Gran. I don't think there is one second (while Gran is awake) that she isn't talking to Riley. She's got me and Ben doing it now, so Riley should be talking up a storm before long.

I am posting a few pictures that Aunt Nicole took of Riley. She's an aspiring photographer and is doing great! The pictures are so good!

Trip to "HuntsVegas"

On Wednesday, we travelled to Huntsville for a visit with Gran and Pop. We are here for a few days and, of course, Gran and Pop are loving having Riley here. They already have her spoiled - that's what grandparents are for, though, right?!

Today we went to visit Jill and Sarah Grace. (Glenda and Fred were also there.) We had a lot of fun playing. At one point I looked up and Sarah Grace had Riley's pacifier in her mouth. It was the funniest thing I've seen in a while. For some reason, I just thought it was hilarious. I really thought for a minute that Jill would freak out because of germs, but she didn't. I guess she figures a 6 week old can't have that many germs. We decided that maybe Riley should try one of Sarah Grace's pacifiers and she seemed to like it : ) I am posting a picture of them with each other's pacifiers. I'm also posting some other pics - Jill and Riley, Glenda and Riley, Sarah Grace looking cool in her sunglasses and one of Riley laying in the middle of the kitchen table while everyone ate lunch. She seemed to like it there : ) We really had a great visit!
